 Bangkok Sleeps is a web site dedicated to the budget traveler. Many travelers have no idea where to stay, or what to see when they arrive in Bangkok, Thailand. At Bangkok Sleeps we hope we can help you with this problem.
There are many great guide books out there that can help you, such as Lonely Planet, Rough Guides, and Let's Go. These guide books are
great, but they don't list very many hotels/guesthouses/hostels in Bangkok. The hotels, cafes, tour companies, and stores have not paid to be listed on this site. These are not advertisements. This is a free service to both you, and them.

Bangkok has much to offer for entertainment. There are many bars and restuarants that cater to the backpacking crowd. There are many night markets to walk around in and purchase that fake Rolex you have always wanted. If you like to "people watch", you can spend time at one of the many cafe's on Kaosan Road... There are many small shops selling the latest DVD's and CD's
If you are wanting to engage in, um, let's call it "nocturnal entertaiment", beware. Many of these
ladies are not doing this by choice. They have been sold in to it. Some people engage in this activity and justify it by saying that they are helping these poor poverty striken women. That is a bunch of bull. Please, if you want to really help these people, don't use them for your pleasure, think about donating to a charity, such a Justice for Children, Rahab Ministries, or ACET International. By using these women, you are not only supporting, but you are engaging in Sex Slavery.

Bangkok is the perfect place to base youself. There are many awesome sites that are a few hours away. To the north is Ayutthaya World Heritage site, to the west is the River Kwai bridge, to the south is the famous floating market, as well has Pattaya Beach. Bangkok is also a gateway to many beautiful Islands to the south, such as Phuket (pronounced Poo-ket), and Ko Samui. To the north is the golden triangle, and Chiang Mai.
As far as places to base yourself while in Bangkok, we prefer the Siam Square area. It is very convenient to mass transportation. There are several Sky Train stations in the area. From the Sky Train, you have easy access to the subway system. From Siam Square, you also have easy access to the vast canal system with its water taxi's. If you want to enjoy modern shopping facilities, cinema's, and international restaurants, this is you place. There are several shopping centres in the area, such as MBK, Siam Discovery Centre, and Siam Centre. Many travelers prefer to stay in the Kaosan Road area. That is very convenient for booking tours, as well as meeting other fellow travelers. |
